Phoenix LDC at the 15th İskele International Folk Dance Festival, Northern Cyprus

A proud moment for the group - the team with their award.

Phoenix Line Dance Club participation at the 42nd Traditional Festival of Iskele

On 2nd July 2010, Phoenix Line Dance Club were privileged to be invited to participate in the 15th Iskele International Folk Dance Festival; the Country’s largest.

Dance teams from Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Algeria, Slovakia and the TRNC were there to entertain and perform their own style of dancing to the packed show arena. (Click on the YouTube link to see the Russian team in action)

In an atmosphere of friendly professionalism the Phoenix dance team took to the floor to perform six dances, three of which were danced by the Famagusta team. This was the first performance of the Famagusta team at a show and nerves prior to going on the floor were understandably high but as soon as the music started the nerves evaporated and they performed brilliantly, ending with a huge ovation from the audience. Credit has to go to the two youngest members of the team Ceyhun (Jay) and Akile (a Cypriot boy and girl, their ages of ten and fifteen respectively, who performed with the confidence and movement of more experienced dancers.

The Girne team completed the rest of the dances to their usual high standard with the audience joining in with the clapping. They even had a Mexican wave going around the arena!

As the teams walked off to great applause it was a proud moment to be part of such a professional and extremely well run festival. Everyone is looking forward to the next year’s Festival to be able to do it all over again.

      Dear Mr Chavda,

Thank you for your message. As our group were only performers at the festival you mention we have no say in which dance groups are invited to take part. We will, however, pass your comments to the relevant authorities.

      Good luck

      Kind regards

Steve Bisson (Phoenix Line Dance Club, Northern Cyprus)
