Phoenix LDC – Special Easter Line Dance Party – Friday, 22nd April 2011

"Stars" come out at night!

Celebrities of Stage, Screen & TV came out in force to attend the Phoenix LDC Special Easter Line Dance Party held at the Mountain View Hotel on Friday, 22nd April.

It was like a night at the Oscars with around 120 members and guests arriving, many of whom were dressed up in Fancy Dress costume for the evening. Marilyn Monroe, Dr Kildare, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, the Blues Brothers, the Clampetts, Andy Pandy, Austin Powers, Brenda Lee to name but a few, joined in the night’s festivities and it was fascinating to see all the “Stars” dancing together on the same floor.

The Fancy Dress had no specific theme but the twist in the tale was that people had to use a part, or all, of their initials for the character they had chosen. To head the judge’s panel was Özgür Takaç, better known as “Oscar the Cowboy,” Turkey’s premier line dance instructor. Oscar has his own line dance school (Country Club) in Ankara and flew in specially to attend the event together with his wife, Mürüvvet, baby daughter, Belinay, sister, Deniz and her two daughters, Yaz and Ekin. Other judges on the panel were Arnie Lodge from Guernsey, and Karen Öznedin from Gönyelli.

After a very difficult decision, the award of first prize, a week-end for two at the Mountain View Hotel, was given to Lilian White for her portrayal of “Wilma” from the Flintstones and the runner-up prize of dinner for two at Cine Miles Bar & Restaurant went to Kerri Forrester-Willacy for her portrayal of yet again “Wilma”, a more delightful pair of cave women you are unlikely to meet. A special prize went to the Blues Brothers, Mick Bone & Alex Burt, who looked very cool in their black suits, hats and shades.

With a great round of applause and laughter, the winners accepted their prizes from Steve Bisson who remarked that everyone who had dressed in costume was worthy of first prize and it was a terrific sight to see them entering into the spirit of the occasion.

During the line dancing break, Dave Cameron held his now very popular “Down Memory Lane” session and just before the start of the second half of line dancing, Oscar, his wife Mürüvvet and niece, Yaz, show-cased their dance, “Chilli Pepper Hot!” Everyone was greatly impressed by the display and gave a rousing applause at the end of their performance.

As with all good nights, time disappears quickly and it was no exception for this evening. A great time was had by all in an atmosphere of fun and friendship and everyone is now looking forward to the next Phoenix LDC Big Night Out.
